COSCO SHIPPING's YUAN YI HAI Breaks Iron Ore Discharge Record, Setting New World Benchmark at Qingdao Port

news-details

On July 2, with the final clearing machine lifted out of the cabin, COSCO SHIPPING's 400,000-DWT ore carrier, "YUAN YI HAI", successfully finished unloading in the Dongjiakou Port Area of Qingdao Port. The unloading process, which involved 375,500 tons of cargo, was completed in just 30.7 hours, setting a new world record for iron ore unloading. Additionally, the operation achieved three other records for single-ship operations.

Given the requirement for some of the customer's cargoes to be in international transit, the tight unloading time frame added to the challenge. In order to fulfill customers' requirements, COSCO SHIPPING Bulk collaborated with the port to devise a plan to expedite the unloading process. It also deployed its representatives from the Beijing branch in Qingdao to work closely with the ore carrier at the site.

Prior to the ship's arrival, the company representatives in the port engaged in extensive discussions with the port authorities and the customer. They conducted thorough research to develop a preemptive action plan and coordinated with the ship and dispatchers to fully cooperate with the port and make necessary preparations for cargo unloading.

After the arrival of YUAN YI HAI, a selected group of highly skilled workers remained at the forefront of the operation, working day and night to ensure the efficient completion of all tasks. After a strenuous 30.7-hour operation, working around the clock, YUAN YI HAI successfully discharged an impressive 375,500 tons of cargo, setting a new world record for iron ore discharge. This remarkable feat also broke three records for single-ship cargo unloading at Qingdao Port, including unloading 160,000 tons of cargo from a single ship, unloading 300,000 tons of cargo from a single vessel continuously day and night, and achieving a single-ship unloading rate of 12,228 tons per hour.
